Terral — Documentation

Shopify theme for coffee, tea, matcha and herbal infusion stores · Version 1.0.0 · Versión en español

Setting names in bold are the labels you see in the theme editor in English. Texts in “quotation marks” are what shoppers see.

Note. Terral has been built and tested in a local preview of Shopify themes. Validation in a live Shopify store is still pending. Where a behavior depends on your store's data (metafields, apps, pickup locations), this guide says so.

1. Introduction

Terral is a theme for stores that sell coffee, tea, matcha, herbal blends and brewing tools. It is built around product information that matters in these stores: tasting notes, roast, leaf type, ingredients and preparation. It comes with five styles. Each one has its own header, product card, product page, quick view, cart and search results, not just a different palette.

Style In one line
Terral A lot catalog for specialty coffee: a book-style index menu, text-first tasting cards and an order sheet.
Crema An espresso counter: a fixed order bar, ticket-style product cards with direct add, and a point-of-sale receipt cart.
Camellia A tea reading room: a header that folds into a slim ribbon, landscape folio cards with a leaf-type seal and a full-page tea tray instead of a drawer.
Chasen A matcha workbench: a full-screen tray menu of large tiles, cards that flip over for quick view, and a bottom shelf cart.
Infuse A herbal infusion herbarium: an always-visible search with an A–Z index, envelope cards and a split-view cart.

Typography by style (headings / body): Terral PT Serif / Chivo · Crema Josefin Sans / Rubik · Camellia Arapey / Nunito Sans · Chasen Space Grotesk / IBM Plex Sans · Infuse Raleway / Mulish (listed as Muli in the Shopify font picker).

The theme is translated into English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Arabic (storefront and editor).

2. Installation and choosing a style

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes and add Terral from the Theme Store, choosing the style you want.
  2. Click Customize to open the theme editor. Preview it with your own products before publishing.
  3. When you are happy with it, publish the theme.

What each style installs. Every style shares the same code. A style sets the presentation settings (colors, fonts, layout) and comes with its own templates for the home page, collection, product, password page and three extra page templates (page.choose, page.experience, page.preparation):

Style Home page sections, in order
Terral Terral brew bench · Lot ledger · Preparation reading · Visual story · Preparation laboratory
Crema Coffee counter · Drink board · Coffee preparation studio · Freshness calendar · Preparation index · Promotion tiles
Camellia Infusion scene · Tea selection · Steeping scale · Visual story · Brewing guide · Questions and answers
Chasen Matcha workbench · Whisk ratio · Day arc · Visual story (two)
Infuse Infuse herbarium · Plant glossary · Blend comparison · Editorial story

Changing style later. In Theme settings > Layout, Opening layout switches between Terral, Crema, Camellia, Chasen and Infuse. This changes the header, cards, product page layout, quick view, cart and search of the whole store. It does not replace the sections already placed on your templates; add or remove those in the editor.

First steps checklist

  • Create your menus in Content > Menus (the header uses main-menu and the footer uses footer by default).
  • Choose a logo in the Header section.
  • Review the five color schemes and the dark mode option (section 3.1).
  • Add the product metafields your style reads (section 6.8), or leave them empty: blocks that depend on them stay hidden.
  • Replace the demo texts of each home page section with your own information.

3. Global settings

Open Theme settings (the gear icon in the editor).

3.1 Colors, color schemes and dark mode

Theme settings > Colors

  • Color schemes: five schemes are included (paper, alternate, accent, contrast, dark). You can edit them or add more. Each scheme has: Background, Background gradient, Text, Secondary text, Surface and cards, Borders and dividers, Links, Accent, Text on accent, Primary button, Primary button label, Secondary button, Secondary button label, Sale badge, Sale badge label, Focus outline, Field background and Field text.
  • Page color scheme: the base scheme of the store.
  • Color mode: Light, Dark or Match visitor device. In dark mode, every light color scheme uses the Dark mode color scheme; dark schemes keep their colors.
  • Dark mode color scheme: the scheme used when dark mode is active.
  • Areas: Product cards, Cart and quick view, and Notices and pop-ups each take their own scheme. An area set to the page color scheme keeps the colors of its section.

Most sections also have their own Color scheme setting.

3.2 Typography

Theme settings > Typography: Headings and Body, both chosen from the Shopify font library. Each style sets its own pair (see section 1).

3.3 Layout and motion

Theme settings > Layout

  • Opening layout: the style (see section 2).
  • Enable motion: turns the style's animations on or off. The theme also follows the visitor's reduced-motion system preference.
  • Show vendor: shows the product vendor.
  • Show a second product image: uses another image of the same product on the card, with a manual control on touch screens.
  • Show floating back-to-top link: appears after scrolling, when it can avoid content and purchase controls.

3.4 Header and menu

Header section (header group):

  • Logo and Logo width.
  • Menu (default main-menu) and Customer account menu.
  • Keep header visible: sticky header.
  • Show back to top.
  • Show search in the header: opens predictive search (section 6.3).
  • Show official Shop sign-in: shown when customer accounts are enabled.
  • Block Menu promotion: a product or image with Title, Supporting text and Destination, shown inside the menu item set in Menu position (top-level position, starting at 1; review it after reordering the menu).

Each style presents the menu differently: Terral as a book-style index, Crema as a menu board with tabs behind a fixed order bar, Camellia as a horizontal shelf of cards that snaps card by card, Chasen as a full-screen tray of large tiles, and Infuse with an A–Z index that filters the links.

Footer section (footer group): Color scheme, Menu (default footer), Text, Show newsletter and Show enabled payment methods. Language and country selectors appear automatically when your store has more than one language or country.

Theme settings > Social media: paste the full address of each profile (Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, TikTok, YouTube, X (Twitter), Vimeo, Tumblr, Snapchat). Empty fields show no icon in the footer.

3.6 Cart

Theme settings > Cart preferences

  • Show order note.
  • Offer gift wrapping without additional charge: the request is saved as an order attribute; it does not add a paid product. Enable it only if you can wrap without a fee.
  • Show accelerated checkout buttons in the cart (on by default; the branded buttons come from Shopify and keep their own colors).
  • Show free shipping bar in the cart and Free shipping amount: enter the amount in your store's main currency, the same as your free shipping rate. The bar only appears when the customer shops in that currency.

The Cart page section has a Color scheme setting. The cart panel's colors come from the Cart and quick view area (section 3.1).

The Search template section has Results per page, Show native filters and Catalog loading (see section 6.4). The header search is controlled by Show search in the header.

3.8 Product information, reservations and pickup

Theme settings > Product information

  • Show native color swatches (on by default). See section 7 for how to add swatches.
  • Show tracked variant quantity.
  • Show native and editorial product badges.
  • Show native quantity price breaks.

Theme settings > Product reservations: Show reservation information and Reservation policy text. The text appears only for available variants with tracked inventory at zero or below that allow continued selling.

Theme settings > Pickup location hours: up to four pairs of Shopify location ID and Opening hours. Hours appear only for the matching pickup location.

Group headings (Terral and Crema) separates products by type when the collection is sorted by type or the runs are long; if a group has fewer products than Minimum products per group, or a type appears again further down, the page shows no headings.

6. Theme features

6.1 Quick view

Product cards open a quick view with options, price and the native add-to-cart form. Each style has its own:

  • Terral: a tasting sheet that unfolds inline under the card's row.
  • Crema: an order slip in a popover anchored to the card.
  • Camellia: a full-screen plate with a purchase band over the photo.
  • Chasen: the card flips over and the back holds the options and add button.
  • Infuse: a half-height sheet that drops from the header.

Its colors follow Cart and quick view (section 3.1).

6.2 Selection studio (product finder and comparison)

The Selection studio section guides shoppers with two questions (First question and Second question, each with answers A and B). Each Product block sets First answer match and Second answer match (Any answer, Answer A, Answer B), plus Editorial profile, Preparation method, Format description, Documented compatibility and an optional Associated accessory.

Shoppers can compare up to three products in a table and add several products together, each with its selected variant. If you fill in Personal message field name, an optional personal message is added to the line item. Without JavaScript, the section shows all products to choose individually.

Typing in the header search shows suggestions for products, articles and pages as you type, with keyboard navigation. Each style lays out the results differently (for example, Terral in two columns of lots and preparation guides, Infuse in blends, plants and notes).

6.4 Filters, sorting and catalog loading

Collection and search pages use Shopify's native filters and sorting (Show native filters). Set up filters with the Shopify Search & Discovery app. Catalog loading offers Native page links, Manual continuation (a “More results” button) or Bounded automatic continuation (loads up to two more pages automatically, then shows the button). Page links remain available in every mode.

6.5 Preparation laboratory

Each Preparation block takes a Product, Product per serving (g), Water per serving (ml), Water temperature (°C) and Preparation time (seconds). Shoppers choose the number of servings and see the amounts. If you enter Pack weight (g) (and, for products with several variants, the Exact variant title), the cost per serving is shown; with zero, the cost is omitted.

6.6 Shoppable film

Upload a Shopify-hosted Shopify video and add Chapter and product blocks with Chapter start (seconds) and a Product. Products can be added from the film's chapters. Add a Video description and transcript for accessibility.

6.7 Cart per style

Style Cart panel Cart page
Terral Order sheet sliding in from the start side, with index lines Ledger with a sticky summary
Crema Narrow receipt anchored to the bottom corner, with circled quantities Centered receipt with a sticky total
Camellia No drawer: a discreet notice with the item count, subtotal and a “View tray” link Full-page tray with order notes
Chasen Full-width bottom shelf with Checkout fixed at the end Grid with a payment column
Infuse Column that pushes the page aside (full screen on phones) Blend register under a sticky total strip

All carts support the order note, gift wrapping request, free shipping bar and accelerated checkout according to the Cart preferences settings. Subscription products (selling plans) and gift card recipient fields are supported on product pages.

6.8 Product metafields read by the theme

All are optional. When a metafield is empty, the related element is hidden or the theme falls back to the product type.

Metafield Used by
custom.tasting_notes Terral cards and product page, Lot ledger (collection based). Text or a list of texts.
custom.roast Lot ledger, Terral quick view.
custom.tea_type Camellia cards, product page, quick view and search (falls back to the product type).
custom.brew_temperature, custom.brew_time, custom.brew_grams Steeping scale and Camellia product page. Write the temperature starting with the number (for example 80 °C).
custom.serve Crema cards, quick view and search.
custom.use Chasen product page and quick view.
custom.base, custom.ingredients Infuse cards, product page, quick view and search; custom.ingredients also links plants in Plant glossary.

6.9 Other features

  • Product media: images, Shopify videos, external videos and 3D models, with photo zoom.
  • Pickup availability per variant, with optional opening hours (section 3.8).
  • Long product titles are trimmed on cards and menus (full title on hover and for screen readers) and shown in full in quick view and on the product page.
  • Arabic translation with right-to-left layout.

7. FAQ and troubleshooting

I changed the style but my home page sections are still the same. The Opening layout setting changes the look and behavior of the store, not the sections placed on your templates. Add, remove or reorder sections in the editor.

The free shipping bar does not appear. Check that Show free shipping bar in the cart is on, that Free shipping amount is above zero and in your main currency, that the cart is not empty, and that the shopper is using your main currency.

How do I add color swatches? Open a product in Shopify admin, connect the variant option to a category metafield such as Color, then set a color or image for each value in Content > Metaobjects. For filters, set the filter's display to Swatch in the Search & Discovery app. Turn off Show native color swatches to show option names only.

The Lot ledger or Steeping scale shows nothing.Lot ledger (collection based) with Only show products with tasting notes on needs custom.tasting_notes. Steeping scale needs the brewing metafields (section 6.8).

Plants in the Plant glossary are not linked to products. The theme looks for the plant's Matching word (or its Name) in each product's custom.ingredients metafield, within the selected Collection.

Back-in-stock requests do not send anything. The theme does not send notifications by itself. The Availability notices block needs a compatible notification provider: set Notification connection, Provider name, Provider request path (an /apps/ path) and Provider privacy link.

The countdown in the Campaign banner does not appear.End date and time must be a full ISO 8601 date with time zone, for example 2026-12-31T23:59:00-05:00.

The promotion window or age declaration does not show again. Change its Campaign identifier. Visitors who dismissed the previous one will see the new one.

Pickup hours are not shown. The Shopify location ID must match a location with local pickup enabled exactly.

A section with an Associated product is not visible. Blocks with Associated product only appear on that product's page. Check that the right product is selected.

Animations are distracting. Turn off Enable motion. Visitors who prefer reduced motion on their device already get a calmer version.
